Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri is in line to take over at Stamford Bridge and appears to be close to being confirmed as the Blues' new manager.

But, despite winning the FA Cup last season - beating Manchester United in the final, Chelsea have ditched Conte ahead of the new campaign.

The 48-year-old had two seasons in charge of Chelsea FC and had one year remaining on his contract.

"We wish Antonio every success in his future career". They eventually stuttered to a fifth-placed finish in the league, which has led to Conte's departure even though he did clinch the FA Cup title.

Though the club only formally announced Conte's departure on Friday, he was sacked on Wednesday, sources said, after weeks of uncertainty about his future as Chelsea attempted to extricate Sarri from his contractual obligation to Napoli.

"Maurizio's Napoli side played some of the most exciting football in Europe, impressing with their attacking approach and dynamism, and his coaching methods significantly improved the players at his disposal", noted Granovskaia.

Taking on the mantle as captain, they won the UEFA Champions League and five Serie A titles.

The Sun is reporting that the Chelsea FC board are confident that Sarri's appointment can bring stability to the Blues dressing room following a hard 2017-18 season.

Conte led Chelsea to the Premier League title in his first season in England in 2016-17 and followed up that achievement with the FA Cup triumph this year, but his relationship with the board became damaged beyond fix, highlighted by his repeated public and private complaints about transfer policy.
