Tiger Woods on 'special' Ryder Cup honour

Casey has enjoyed an encouraging season on the PGA Tour with five top-10 finishes, including his first victory for nine years when he held off Tiger Woods to win the Valspar Championship in March, and he is anxious to don the European Ryder Cup colours once again at Le Golf National.

However Woods' form since his return to golf this year prompted Furyk to award him one of the four captain's picks set aside for players who did not qualify automatically for the team.

Golf's latest search for a breakout star has come to the quirky little laboratory of Bryson DeChambeau.

You can see who Thomas Bjorn selects with his four captain's picks on Wednesday at 2pm (BST) - we'll be covering the announcement live on The Sportsman.

Mickelson had qualified for every team since 1995, a streak that ended this year when he finished No. 10 in the standings.

His metronomic three-wood could prove a key weapon in France; however there are concerns on the greens that need to be ironed out in tandem with putting coach Phil Kenyon. The 42-year-old Poulter has lost only four of his 18 career matches on five Ryder Cups (12-4-2) and is undefeated in singles (4-0-1). What the 48-year-old has yet to do is win on foreign soil, and he said Tuesday he was well aware this event might represent his final opportunity to get that triumph.

'Lo and behold I'm part of this team.

'I'm excited about the team this year, I'm excited to be part of the team.

If Europe fails to win on home soil for the first time in 25 years when the two sides compete for the cherished cup September 28-30 at Le Golf National outside of Paris, Bjorn surely will be subject to second-guessing for his captain's picks.

DeChambeau barely missed becoming an automatic qualifier, finishing ninth in the standings, and he locked up a spot by excelling in the past two PGA tournaments, which were playoff events for the FedEx Cup. "And it showed, and it paid off".

"I'm hoping that I'm one of them".

"He's won three times so far under the age of 25, which is pretty impressive", Woods said on Sunday after being paired with DeChambeau. He knows what I can bring to the team.

The Dane has some hard decisions to make before he announces his final four team members and we have analysed his potential captain's picks ahead of the announcement at 2pm on Wednesday 5 September. "We've got three weeks to go and I want it to be next week".
