The Apple Watch is inching toward becoming a medical device

The biggest news for most smartphone users was the announcement of the new phone's dual-Sim capability, meaning users will have access to two phone numbers on the same iPhone at the same time.

Apple also announced a new iPhone XR starting at $749, available in October, with a 6.1-inch display to broaden its pool of buyers.

Like the XS and XS MAX, the XR has a new Depth Control slider feature that lets you adjust the depth-of-field in Portrait Mode photos after they're captured, going from maximum bokeh at f/1.8 to maximum depth-of-field at f/16. The screen needs no backlight, so black would appear as truly black rather than simply dark. Coming to the pricing, the Apple Watch Series 4 with GPS starts at $399 while the GPS + Cellular model is priced at $499.

While the two XS devices will be available to pre-order from Friday and go on-sale on September 21, the XR will not be released until October. That is significantly more expensive than the starting price of the flagship models it replaced and put it out of reach of many consumers. IPhones fetched an average price of $724 during the April-June period, a almost 20 percent increase from a year earlier.

One of the other downgrades the XR comes with is a lower overall maximum storage capacity. It basically stuck with the same design from 2014's iPhone 6 models to last year's iPhone 8. The 512GB iPhone XS Max will put a €1,300 dent in your pocket.

More news: Storm Moving Closer to US

Apple CEO Tim Cook speaks about the Apple iPhone XS at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. But it didn't, due to the product's steep R18,000 price tag.

The investors reasoned that doing so would pose no threat to Apple, because the company makes the bulk of its money selling devices, not from how much people use them. Both will be free to install. We got to spend some time with the Apple Watch 4.

Alongside the screen upgrade, the watches are also receiving improved health-tracking abilities, replacing the light-based heart monitor found in earlier models with a new ECG-based system, which is generally more accurate - particularly when used on dark or tattooed skin. What we think With the ECG feature, Apple Watch has really taken it to the next level.

Ben Wood of CCS Insight said getting US regulatory clearance for that is a milestone that underscores the company's leadership in health and fitness. If the user is immobile for more than a minute after the notification, the watch can automatically call for help "and send a message along with location to emergency contacts", Apple says.

Apple has made the screen bigger, pushing the glass display right to the edge, giving a 30 per cent larger display while the body of the watch is actually thinner that the series 3 Apple Watch.

The new accelerometer and gyroscope will help the watch detect when its falling and the watch can measure up to 32g forces.
