McGregor returns for Nurmagomedov grudge match

The two meet Saturday night in what is expected to be the biggest fight in UFC history - a bout might even threaten the pay-per-view sales mark set past year by McGregor when he was stopped in a boxing match by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Tony Ferguson's return is crucial to the lightweight division; Derrick Lewis and Alexander Volkov could be fighting for a title shot at heavyweight; and there are some interesting prospects throughout the card.

The final press conference ahead of UFC 229 was an unusual affair at the best of times, but it got odd when the Irishman went after opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov's manager in a wild rant.

"I could go into heavy detail. and I will!"

There's not much else that needs to be said at this point.

Abdelaziz "turned informant and turned on the people he was working with", McGregor said, adding, "I don't even know why that man is in this [expletive] country".

"Conor's not here yet and Khabib said he's not going to wait", White said after rushing out after Nurmagomedov.

"He should have just stayed put", McGregor said. "I have to focus on my weight cut".

He continued saying that Khabib is "too easy to hit, too flat-footed, too predictable, I'm going to knock him clean out".

"I don't worry about him". What they got instead were separate appearances, with Nurmagomedov leaving 10 minutes before McGregor - who was almost a half hour late - arrived.

"To be honest, I don't want [McGregor] to go to jail". Then there's the fact that McGregor is one of the most important fighters of all-time; the combined star power of himself and Ronda Rousey got the Ultimate Fighting Championship sold for billions, but most importantly, he was the first fighter to extract every ounce of leverage he had over the promotion.

"I have a schedule", Nurmagomedov said. "We're gonna see", Nurmagomedov said. I am coming to put a hole in this man's skull. You just steam yourself in that sauna and soak you f--ing Dagestani rat.

Khabib is the favourite at [1.63] at the time of writing but if you are planning on having a bet, he is likely to drift as the contest approaches with recreational punters betting on McGregor on the back of Media Day on Wednesday and the Weigh-In on Friday.

While Nurmagomedov and McGregor did not see each other on the stage Thursday, their mutual dislike was evident when they spoke about their fight.

Although Nurmagomedov enters the event as champion, McGregor had the belt prior to him and never was dethroned inside the octagon.

That's the lowest you can go? At the time of his big win, McGregor became the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles in two different weight classes simultaneously; he was also the featherweight champion at the time.
