Injured Man Utd duo Pogba and Martial drop out of France squad

The Arsenal forward had been called-up to cover for the injured Anthony Martial but will now not feature against Netherlands and Uruguay.

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette and Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko replace the United duo in Deschamps' squad.

However, the Mirror claim Lacazette informed French bosses within hours that he had to reject the global call-up and make himself unavailable for selection due to a minor groin injury.

Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Benjamin Mendy have been ruled out for World Cup victor France's next two matches through injuries, announced the French Football Federation on Monday.

Olivier Giroud - who was scored one goal in 12 appearances for Chelsea this season - was selected by France. "Lacazette was omitted from the Deschamps" World Cup squad earlier this summer and many fans were left baffled after he again missed out on a spot for the last round of internationals in October despite his brilliant form for Arsenal.

It was Lacazette's first call-up for nearly a year as he hasn't featured for his country since scoring a brace against Germany in November 2017 and he narrowly missed out on a place in their World Cup squad.

But only hours later he was heading back to Manchester after consulting national team doctor Frank Le Gall about a knock he picked up during training.

"This does not take away the credit for what he does".

Les Bleus have a Nations League game against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on 16 November before playing Uruguay in a friendly at the Stade de France on 20 November.
