EPL: Sarri wants a new striker after draw with Southampton

It was a frustrating evening for Chelsea, who dominated possession but lacked any cutting edge, maintaining a worrying sequence for Sarri.

"The club knows very well my opinion. I think we need something else for our characteristics", Sarri said when asked if he would consider recalling on-loan forwards Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham.

"On the bench I tried to do my job".

"I have to try to improve my players, my team, my offensive base".

"We have Morata, and Hazard can play very well in this position as we have seen in the last two, three matches, so I think that in the moment I don't need another striker". We have to try to solve the problem. In the last few matches we were in control against every team but at the moment it's not easy for us to score the first goal.

Giroud limped out of Chelsea's 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday, leaving the unconvincing Morata as their only recognised striker. Sarri, who replaced Antonio Conte in the close-season, brought Jorginho with him from Napoli to play the pivotal midfield role in front of the defence that used to be Kante's domain.

Reports suggest that the West London club have cooled their interest in the former Real Madrid player.

It was no surprise Morata wasted a golden opportunity to open the scoring when he met Cesar Azpilicueta's long pass with a tame header straight at 22-year-old Angus Gunn - the son of ex-Norwich goalkeeper Bryan Gunn.

Chelsea announced the £57 million signing of Christian Pulisic on Wednesday, though the USA global will not arrive from Borussia Dortmund until the summer, whilst the club have also been credited with an interest in AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuaín.

Bakayoko is now on loan to Milan and the Italian club have an option to sign him for €35m at the end of the campaign.
