Samsung could flaunt an innovative foldable gaming smartphone, new patent hints

Huawei is also one of the rival firms that have confirmed that it will be launching a foldable smartphone later this year. That's extremely uncompetitive compared to devices like the Google Pixel or the Essential Phone, which both got Android 9 Pie on day one. However, bigger brands are yet to come up with their own gaming smartphones and Samsung might just be the first to enter the field if the newest patents are to be believed. Featuring the tagline "Connecting the Future", the image shows the close up of a foldable phone.

But upon closer inspection, it's possible that the video isn't all that new, and that it's merely showing concept devices, which will probably be quite a bit different from the actual phones Samsung is launching on February 20. Xiaomi teased its double-bending offering on January 23, while Huawei said we'll see its 5G foldable phone at at Mobile World Congress in February. The foldable phone video has since been deleted from their channel (but not before it was picked up by others). The reports also claimed that Xiaomi has reportedly begun working on its own foldable smartphone design and it is expected that Xiaomi foldable phone will be the cheapest device ever.

Samsung's foldable phone already has a pair of Chinese rivals. Huawei will unveil its new product at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) on February 24 which will begin at 6:30pm IST.
