For all the good luck that the UFC had in keeping fights scheduled through January, February is not starting off the same way.

Extra weight was added to the Adesanya-Silva fight when UFC president Dana White announced on Friday that it would be for the No.1 middleweight contender spot.

Kelvin Gastelum is trying to put a positive spin on losing his chance to fight for the middleweight title at UFC 234.

The UFC will stage its first pay-per-view of 2019 from Australia, and fight fans at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne - home of the Australian Open - will see two massive middleweight matchups.

With next to no time to find a replacement for Whittaker all the way out in Australia, UFC 234 turned to its old superstar in Silva to headline the event.

A lightweight clash between Lando Vannata and Marcos Rosa Mariano will now move to the main card. Whittaker was forced to pull out of the bout Saturday due to emergency surgery on his abdomen.
