Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James stunned by Magic Johnson's 'weird' exit

LeBron didn't play in that final Lakers game - Johnson made his announcement before the game - as he'd already been shut down for the season to preserve his body with the playoffs out of reach.

ESPN reported that James and his agent, Rich Paul, had met with Johnson and Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka a few days before Johnson stepped down, but James said he received no hint of the upcoming resignation. Johnson gave James no inkling of his decision to come. James said. "Why would you do that now?"

"What do you mean (stepped down)?" "He's like, 'Go check your phone'". James recalled telling business partner Randy Mims when he told him of the news. "No one had no idea", James said on his show.

"We were like, 'Damn, right now?' It was literally 70 minutes on the clock before [tip-off]".

Lue arrived as an assistant coach with the Cavaliers in 2014, the same year that James returned to the team after playing four years with the Miami Heat.

LeBron James wasn't laughing when informed of Magic Johnson's decision to step down as president of the Lakers.

"Personally, for me, I came here to be a part of the Lakers organisation after having a conversation with Magic, so it was just weird for him to just be like 'Nah, I'm out of here, ' and not even have, like: 'Hey, Bron.kiss my a-".

"We all knew that it was going to be kind of tough", James said. At year 16, you aren't really supposed to be anxious about no damn process. I'm out of here.' I would've been OK with that. 'Hey 'Bron, it's Magic. "I'm gone.'. It wasn't even that".

LeBron is on contract for three more seasons, which is good news for L.A. with the superstar openly venting frustrations with the organization.

This confirms speculations that Johnson didn't consult LeBron or his representatives regarding his decision.
